What does your website mean to your organization?

A website can, and should be a serious consideration for individuals, businesses, and organizations. Not only because it is a task which shouldn't be taken lightly, but because it is the online face of the organization. The design, maintenance, and content of a website are all factors which potential consumers will look at. Think of it this way: If your brick-and-mortar storefront was in a state of disrepair, left unmaintained, or poorly designed, how many customers would just pass you by for your competitor? The same holds true for a web presence. If you have a website, ask yourself if it's current state reflects your organization.

Ok, what do I do now?

If your website reflects your organization, and, putting yourself in the shoes of a potential customer, you feel confident about it, then the answer to this question is nothing. At least not yet. Even the best sites need maintenance. For more information on this, see our article on site maintenance.

If your website doesn't reflect your organization, or it is in a state of disrepair, or the design just isn't right, it's time to do a little planning. This can be done with the help of a professional, or by yourself. Think of how you'd want your site to look. Some people find that they already have the idea of how they want it to look, but aren't sure how to get it to that point. In this case, find someone who can share your vision with you, and produce the site you've always wanted. On the other hand, if you're not sure what you want your site to look like, start small. Even simple things like "Where should the menu go?" can help put you well on your way to designing and having the perfect site. Again, if you're not sure how to proceed, you might consider consulting with a professional.
