Signs its time for a new computer...
The decision to get a new computer isn't always cut and dry. Sometimes, it may be hard to realize when it really is time for a new computer. The following suggestions and signs may help guide you as to whether or not you need to upgrade. So, your computer is getting up there in age, and you aren't sure when to get a new one. First, don't panic. Second, realize that it will end up costing you more to maintain an older computer than to buy a new one. A good rule of thumb: If your support bill is going to be over $500 (Don't forget to add together multiple support bills, if applicable), look into getting a new computer. For a basic computer, capable of word processing, email, and internet access, you shouldn't need to spend more than $500-$700. Of course, higher-end computers may be worth supporting for a little more, but remember the rule of thumb. Now, this isn't to say that your computer isn't worth that $500 to support, especially if you have irreplacable data on that computer. Most times your support professional can migrate your data to your new system without much of a problem, however, and at a substantially lower cost. |
